Following is a conversation I had with MSN WEBChat support people.  This falls into the "you have to be kidding me" category. Black is the actually conversation Red are comments I made while putting this up to post.

Question: How can you forward mail to another account?

This is my original question. Seemed simple enough to me.

An MSN Support Professional will be with you in a moment.

Whisteling the theme from Jeapordy

Dominic: Hello Alan, my name is Dominic and welcome to MSN Webhelp.

Alan: Hi, My Dad will be traveling and wants a way to get his MSN mail while away.  Since there isn't a web browser capability in MSN I figured I'd have him forward to a web capable browser mailer but I'm not sure how in MSN to do that.

Dominic: [Item sent - How Can I read the same mail on Outlook Express on more than one computer?] http://memberservices.msn.com/supportandhelp/msnfaqs/Faq/Mail/xmail/Xmng/Xmng17.htm

This page he sent basically told you how to set up an account in MS OutLook.  Notice he didn't answer my question.

Dominic: Thank you for waiting. Please review the following information which pertains to your inquiry and let me know if you have additional questions.

Alan: He'll never be able to set up another mailer to go to the account - it would be easier if he could forward

He probably could but this isn't a simple way to go and assumes the computer he uses while traveling somewhere has MS OutLook. Can you see some Internet cafe` letting someone do this?  I think not.

Dominic: [Item sent - How Do I Export Messages from Outlook Express to Microsoft Exchange?]
http://memberservices.msn.com/supportandhelp/msnfaqs/Faq/Mail/xmail/Xmng/Xmng03.htm

This page basically told you how to export messages you had already downloaded and were in OutLook.

Alan: Okay so what your telling me is there isn't a way to forward at the server level?

I was starting to figure he wasn't smart enough to answer the simple question.

Dominic: You can, but you have to set up a account in Hotmail.

Alan: So, he can forward to hotmail but hotmail only?

Hmmm, maybe he does know something - I'm figuring now if he tells me how to forward to hotmail I can forward to anywhere.

Dominic: Yes, anyone can access hotmail anywhere with there login and password after they set up an account.

No kidding moron, that's why I want to forward the mail because MSN can't do that (because it's a POS but that's another story)

Alan: yeah I got that part - The problem is people send to user@msn.com - how do I tell MSN to forward to hotmail

Apparently I have to repeat myself.

Dominic: [Item sent - How Does Hotmail Affect My MSN Account?]
http://memberservices.msn.com/supportandhelp/msnfaqs/Faq/Mail/Hmail/Hintr02.htm

Tells ya how to open a HotMail account - big help your being here Dominic

Dominic: You have to go to Hotmail and click Contact Us.

Hot mail is capable of forwarding to MSN

Alan: LOL - That's backwards - listen to what I'm asking - He doesn't want to have to tell people to send to a new account he wants his current account user@msn.com to forward mail to hotmail so that it will be accessable from a web browser

Repeating myself again

Dominic: I understand. Set up an account with hotmail, then import the messages from your dads msn account to the hotmail account

He thinks he understands - That's a joke

Dominic: He will then be able to read them while he is away.

This is true but not what I was asking for

Alan: that works for mail he receives while he is home and running outlook - that doesn't help while he's traveling and someone sends new mail to him as user@msn.com

Now I'm giving classes to this guy that Microsoft actually pays

Dominic: Does he have a computer to take with him?

Can't he buy one?  What was the question again?

Alan: I'm starting to believe the answer to my original question "How can you forward mail to another account?" Is that you can't

Which is what I believed all along but wanted someone to tell me that so I'd stop looking for a way to do it.  Notice I repeated myself a 5th time.

Alan: No that's the point - He wants to be able to simply get his email from any computer wherever he is - like you can do with hotmail and other mailers

But not MSN

Dominic: [Item sent - How Can I read the same mail on Outlook Express on more than one computer?]
http://memberservices.msn.com/supportandhelp/msnfaqs/Faq/Mail/xmail/Xmng/Xmng17.htm

This is the first one he sent me and actually sent it twice here again but I deleted it to read easier - This is how to set up an Outlook Account again

Dominic: Has the information I sent you been successful in resolving your problem?

Alan: No it hasn't

I think at this point he hasn't answered the question because today is the first time he's seen a computer - I figure maybe I should get tougher and he'll try and get help from someone in the office that's at least seen a computer before this week

Alan: How can you forward mail to another account? Is the question

Repeat Number 5

Dominic: Did you get the page that I sent to you?

Yeah 3 times even

Alan: yes multiple pages - but none talk about forwarding

Dominic: Please read through the page that I have sent to you. Thank you.

Hmmm, that's it - I must be the idiot!

Alan: Dominic - should I reword my question - apparently we are having a communication gap

or your an idiot

Alan: Is MSN capable of forwarding mail, from the server, to another account?

reworded, simple enough, in English, spelled right - repeated for the 6th time

Dominic: One moment please.

Oh goody goody he went to ask someone else!

Dominic: Forwarding is about the same thing as exporting the message to another account.

Ack - he asked someone else who was introduced to their computer the day before him

Alan: exporting only handle messages you've already received

Alan:  It's an export (of current things) not a forward on new things

Back to training - or I should say trying to train him

Dominic: I apologize for the delay. I am still researching for you. Please wait.

Alan Brenden: okay thank you

Whooo Hoooo He's gone to get yet another person - I won't hold my breath

Dominic: In order for you to get the answer to your question, you should contact our MSN Technical Support service at 1-877-635-7019. (toll free in the U.S.) Please indicate that you require an answer today.

There ya go - I can just see it - him standing up in his cube, about 5 other guys looking over there cubes, him asking and them all looking at each other and shrugging.  I'm curious what question he could of answered that I couldn't of found in the FAQ pages.

Alan: Thank you for your time

I'm being cordial Dominic don't say a word...

Dominic: Is there anything else that I can assist you with today?

Alan: apparently not

Hey, he opened himself up did he not?

[Alan Brenden - user has disconnected]

Way to go MS - make a POS app and then support it like this.  In retrospect I suppose if the guy knew more then how to type he'd be offered a higher paying job developing for them.
